This is the town where I grew up. I have lived here for over 45 years. The changes I have seen are phenominal. The late seventies saw a boom that went beyond boom and then in the eighties a bust beyond all busts. But Houston has bounced back. Houston boasts about being the "Oil Capital of the US" and "Space City".
Downtown Houston is going through some major changes. The night life of downtown has a reputation for rolling up the sidewalks at 5:00 p.m. after everyone has left their jobs. That is changing. Developers are renovating some of Houston's old historical buildings and creating loft apartments. One developer has come in and created an entertainment mall in the old convention center called "Bayou Place". It includes a motion picture theater, a stage theater for live band entertainment, and resteraunts galore. Hard Rock Cafe moved there from another location.
We also have a world renown symphony and ballet company which perform at Jones Hall and Wortham Center respectively. Soon T.U.T.S -- Theatre Under the Stars -- will have a new home. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is currently under construction at the site of what once was The Coloseum and Music Hall on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou.

Sports --- we've got sports. The Houston Astros moved into the new Enron Field in April of 2000. Houston has just obtained the newest NFL expansion team -- The Houston Texans -- and a new retractable roof stadium is under construction next to the Astrodome. The NBA Houston Rockets and WNBA Houston Comets basketball teams will have a new home in the coming years. A new downtown arena will be their new home in the near future.

Kenneth Wyatt graciously gave me permission to use his painting, "The Fifty Yard Line". It is not for public use. Mr. Wyatt captures the true essence of Texas in his paintings. He also reflects his deep faith in God. Please click on the above logo and visit his gallery. You will be blessed.
I would also like to thank Glass Steel & Stone for permission to use the photo of downtown Houston's skyline. This website has some awesome photos of skyscrapers and other buildings all over the world.
